Vance began his career in 1974, as a project engineer with Sundstrand Aerospace. He has held positions of increasing responsibility in space and missile power systems, underwater propulsion systems, and aircraft systems including assignment as program manager for Airbus A340, A330 and Gulfstream V Electric Power Systems; Global Express Flap and Slat Systems; and Horizon Electric Power Generation, Distribution and Utility Management. After serving as manager of new business development-international, he served in Germany as manager of European programs. Sootie and Vance relocated to the Seattle area in 2002 where Vance served as the on-site program manager for the various Hamilton Sundstrand systems (APU, electric power generation and engine start, primary power distribution, secondary power distribution, high voltage DC rack and distribution panel, ram air turbine, hydraulic electric motor pump, environmental control system, cabin pressure control system, air distribution system, galley cooling system, air conditioning system) on the Boeing 787. In August 2008, Vance returned to Rockford, IL. to a PM assignment for Electric Power on the Boeing 787. From March 2009 though October 2010 Vance was been PM of all Electric Power Programs with Bombardier and for Hawker though May 2011. In June 2011 Vance moved to his current assignment in Advanced Technology Development. Vance served as a UMR admissions ambassador for several years.
