Dick worked for Boeing and NASA-Marshall Space Flight Center in the development of guidance and control systems for Saturn, Skylab, and the Space Shuttle programs. In 1978, he founded Campbell Engineering, which provides engineering and fabrication services for the aerospace, defense and medical (orthopedic instruments) industries. Campbell Engineering has manufactured over 40,000 parts of the International Space Station and was the recipient of the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year award. In 2005, Dick sold Campbell Engineering to Accellent Inc. He has started a new company that designs and patents new surgical instruments. From 1972 to 1992, Dick was the adjunct professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. He is a registered professional engineer and is recognized as an Outstanding Fellow at the University of Alabama.
