Ralph began his career in the U.S. Naval Air Corps from 1943-1946.He completed his degree at the MSM. After graduation he worked for Timken Co., Canton, OH, culminating as Vice President of Engineering and Research and a member of the Board of Directors in 1985. He represented the company at the Anti-Friction Bearing Manufacturer's Association (AFBM). He was the AFBM representative to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) where he was on the Board of Directors. He went on to represent ANSI at the International Standard Organization (ISO). He then became associate dean of engineering at West Virginia University until becoming a professor of the School of Technology at Kent State University. Ralph is a registered professional engineer in Ohio and West Virginia and has belonged to numerous societies. Ralph was a founding member of the Order of the Golden Shillelagh and had helped UMR on the Chancellor's Task Force, Development Council and OGS Executive Committee. Ralph belonged to the Canton Junior Chamber of Commerce, Canton Chamber of Commerce, Louisville City Council, Knights of Columbus as well as many other civic organizations. He volunteered with the United Way, Meal on Wheels, and Boy Scouts of America (Executive Committee for Buckeye Council and National Scouting Committee).
