Forty years of Leland’s professional career were spent in missile and space systems that were used in orbiting the first U.S. satellite around the earth. He was NASA’s Rocket Engine program manager for Saturn and other launch vehicles used in the Apollo Manned Lunar Landing program. He was NASA’s program manager for the Skylab Space Station. Leland retired in 1992 after seven years as vice president of UTC. At UMR, he served on the Corporate Development Council for several years. Leland and Jerena enjoyed their retirement in Huntsville.
