Dr. Harry "Hank" Sauer received his associates degree from Missouri Western State College, his bachelor's and master's degrees from Missouri S&T (then Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy).  Dr. Sauer received his Ph.D. from Kansas State University with expertise in heat transfer and thermo physical property measurements, boiling and condensation, HVAC systems and energetics.  In addition to his teaching, Dr. Sauer served as Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Chair of Mechanical Engineering.  He published more than 150 technical papers and five engineering textbooks.

Dr. Sauer won numerous Faculty Excellence Awards at Missouri S&T.  He served on the board of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers and on the board of the International Thermal Conductivity Conferences.  In 2003, he was named the Most Distinguished Scientist by the Missouri Academy of Sciences.  He was the recipient of the Hermann F. Spoehrer Award.  In 1999, Missouri S&T presented him with the Alumni Merit Award.
