Al had been active in the MSM/UMR Alumni Association, and had served as a vice president and as a director of its board. He was a public resource ambassador, and had also served on the UMR MAE Industrial Advisory Committee. Professionally, he committed his time to community groups such as the St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Association, the Air and Waste Management Association, the Water Environmental Federation.
