Russell E. Flye was a principal mechanical engineer who worked at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation near Richland, Wash. He had been an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. since 1968 and served as National Chairman of the Ritual and Ceremonies Committee and chapter advisor to the college chapter at Washington State University–Pullman. Mr. Flye was active with the Nu Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He was also a member of ASME, ASHRAE, and NSBE. Mr. Flye served on the ASME International Codes and Standards Subcommittee on Common Equipment. He was a dedicated 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 10653.
During his spare time, Mr. Flye and members of the Nu Epsilon Lambda Chapter mentored African-American male middle school and high school students in the Pasco School District. He was devoted to improving the educational opportunities of minority students.
He received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1971 and his M.S. in management science from West Coast University in 1975. He held professional engineer licenses in the states of California, Nevada, and Washington.
