Bob, a registered professional engineer in Missouri, began his career with the Shell Oil Co. at the Wood River Refinery as a mechanical engineer. Through 1992 he held a number of positions at four Shell locations. In 1992 Bob accepted a position as general manager with CITGO Petroleum Corp. in Tulsa, Okla. From 1993 through August 1999, Bob was the general manager of operations and maintenance at CITGO's Lake Charles (La.) Manufacturing Complex. In August 1999, Bob was named vice president and refinery manager of CITGO's Corpus Christi (Texas) Refinery.

Bob serves on the board of directors of United Way, Coastal Bend Minority Business Development Council, Port Industries of Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi School of Engineering Technology, Bay Area Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse, Associated Chemical Industries of Texas, and the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce.
