Ray retired from a thirty-five year career with General Electric in 1994. He joined GE on the Engineering Development program and was accepted into the Advanced Engineering Development Program. This early part of his career led to a number of brief work/study assignments in GE plant locations at Cincinnati, Ohio, Lynn, Mass., Burlington, Vt., Pittsfield, Mass., Somersworth, N.H., Schenectady, N.Y. and Syracuse, N.Y. During this period he also completed his military service at Ft. Belvoir, Vir. and Ft. Riley, Kan. The next stage of his career was at GE's Apollo Support Department at Daytona Beach, Fla. from 1962 to 1967. During this assignment he was engaged in structural analysis of various launch vehicles as a part of the space program. In 1967, Ray returned to GE's Aircraft Engine Business at Cincinnati, Ohio as Senior Engineer, Aeromechanics working on the development of composite fan blades. Over the remainder of his career, Ray was given leadership positions of increasing responsibility in the development of advanced aircraft engine components and technologies with offices in both Cincinnati, Ohio and Lynn, Mass. Ray led the engineering organization in developing GE’s Energy Efficient Engine demonstrating the viability of a number of advance commercial engine concepts now implemented in current commercial product engines. Ray also led the engineering program for the development the YF120 engine, an advanced military demonstrator engine for the USAF. He retired from GE in January 1994 as General Manager, Military Product Engines, GE Aircraft Engines.
