After graduating, Mike joined Royal Insurance Company as a safety engineer in St. Louis, Mo. In 1974, he joined Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company where he advanced to Regional Vice President for their mid-western region. In 1985 Mike joined Lawton-Byrne-Bruner, the largest insurance broker in Missouri and the seventeenth largest in the U.S. His position was Vice President of Commercial Insurance. They were sold to Marsh & McLennan in 1987 where Mike held the position of senior vice president. In 1991 Mike started with Huntleigh/McGehee, where he was a partner. In 1997 he purchased Spectrum Risk Management Services, Inc. which is a third party administrator that manages claims for self-insurers of workers compensation, liability and health insurance. In 2007, Mike joined AHM Financial Group, LLC, a multi-faceted financial group. In 1977 he became a certified safety professional, CSP; in 1983 a chartered property and casualty underwriter, CPCU; and in 1992 a certified insurance consultant, CIC. Mike has held positions including president of the St. Louis Insurance Executives Association, president of the St. Louis Association of Independent Insurance Agents, and president of the Pine Street Club. Mike was named the 2000 St. Louis Independent Insurance Agents’ Person of the Year.
