After a 38-year career at Owens-Illinois, Inc., John retired in February 1999. His career, which was in the glass industry, included manufacturing management, quality control, and sales and marketing. He also served as general manager of Owens-Brockway Glass Containers and director of corporate technology. His assignments involved worldwide travel to over 30 countries as well as many domestic locations. 

John’s volunteer involvement at UMR included chairing and attending the senior design midterm and final reviews to help evaluate each team’s project management and offer suggestions. John was actively involved in the Academy of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineers.

John was a member of the Site Committee of Placerita High School, Santa Clarita, California, a member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Greater Toledo Chapter, Blood Services Board Toledo Area, and a board member of the Maumee Valley Country Day School, a private school in Toledo, Ohio.
