John was the founder of VSE Corporation (NASDAQ-VSEC), from which he retired in 1992. A former Navy pilot, John retired as a Trustee for the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Fla. He was president of the Alexandria, VA, chapter of Rotary International. He served as a director of Riggs National Bank of Virginia and DSC Corporation of Dallas, Texas. He was on the board of directors and executive committee of the MSM/UMR Alumni Association. He received the Alumni Service Award in 1978 and was president of the Alumni Association from 1988-1990.
