After completing requirements for MS and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering, Gordon began work at the John Deere Product Engineering Center where he was project manager for the new Deere 6466 family of diesel engines, which began production in 1974. In 1986, he was transferred to Detroit, Mich., to be Director of Engine Technology for the proposed joint venture Diesel Engine Company between Deere & Company and General Motors Corporation. Gordon resigned and took the position of Director of Ford New Holland’s Diesel Engine Operations. In January 1995, he was appointed manager, Advanced Powertrain Systems & Diesel Engineering and in August of 1995, was named manager, Advanced In-Line Gasoline and Diesel Engineering, located in Basildon, Essex, United Kingdom. In April of 1997, he retired from Ford Motor Company and taught mechanical engineering as an adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Gordon Served as Vice President of Engineering for Stirling Biopower in Ann Arbor, Michigan until July 2011. Gordon is currently Principal, Welford Consulting, LLC.
