George began his career as a research engineer at Shell Oil in Wood River, IL. After serving as an Army company commander, he returned to Rolla to complete his master’s degree and became an assistant professor in mechanical engineering. In 1966, George joined Ford Motor Company as a light truck development engineer. He enjoyed a 30-year career with a variety of supervisory assignments in advanced design, powertrain, standards, and vehicle engineering, all of which required extensive global travel. George led joint Ford, GM, and Chrysler, Supplier Teams that produced industry standard procedures. He was appointed manager of worldwide engineering standards in 1992. George was active in the OGS, an elder in his church, and liked anything to do with real or model railroads. George passed away in October 2006. George and Marsha had two sons, George and Alan, and five grandchildren.
