George began his management career with Procter and Gamble, moving through a series of manufacturing positions. After a short but productive stint with Continental Can Company, he joined Masonite Corporation and moved up through vice president of manufacturing into his first general management position at the head of their Atlas Roofing Company division. He then joined the Ciments Francais Group as CEO of their U.S. arm that operated under the name of Coplay Cement Company and which later became ESSROC Incorporated. He worked briefly as an independent consultant specializing in mergers and acquisitions before joining Medusa Corporation as president in 1993. George presided over the merger of Medusa with Southdown, Inc. and then served on Southdown’s Board of Directors until that company merged with Cemex, one of the world’s largest Portland cement companies. George retired in 1998.
