Don began his career with Emerson Electric where he performed research and development work on ablation thermal protection systems and conducted interior ballistics analysis of solid propellant rocket motors. Don later joined Propellex, where he became vice president of engineering responsible for the marketing, design, development and production of a variety of pyrotechnic and explosive devices. In 1964, Don commenced a 32-year career with McDonnell Douglas. He held a variety of positions which included director of engineering for the AV-8B Harrier, F/A-18 Hornet, and Design Engineering. He also served as vice president of quality processes and vice president of aircraft and missile support systems. Don was a founding member and first past president of the Academy of Mechanical Engineers.
