Dean retired from Texas Instruments following 30 years of service. When he retired he was an executive vice president of Texas Instruments (TI), the president of the digital imaging business, and was also chairman of the Texas Instruments Quality Leadership Team. Previously Dean was president of the Systems Group which included the Defense Systems & Electronics Business (U.S. Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Winner) and the Communications and Electronics Systems Business. Dean joined TI in 1968 and worked as a design engineer, project engineer, manufacturing manager, and program manager for major missile-related programs such as the Shrike and Harpoon missiles. In 1974, he joined the High Speed Anti-Radiation Missile program, which he later directed and managed. Dean became a vice president in 1985 and assumed leadership of the Weapon Systems division. In 1993, he was named president of the TI defense business which specialized in tactical missiles, airborne raiders, and infrared night vision systems.
Dean is a current member of the Defense Science Board; consults for several government agencies and corporations; serves on boards; and supports volunteer activities.
He also enjoys a broad array of hobbies that includes flying, scuba diving, skiing, electronics, metalworking, and woodworking. Dean and Linda live in Plano, Texas, and Breckenridge, Colo. They have one daughter, Lauren, who lives in Denver, Colo.
