Cal began his career at Union Starch and Refining Company in Granite City, Ill., as project engineer and rose to assistant director of engineering. He became plant engineer for Miles Laboratory, who purchased Union Starch in 1967, and stayed there until 1972 when the plant was sold to others. He then became director of plant operations at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill., until 1973 when he became manager of engineering and maintenance at Chesebrough-Pond's plant in Jefferson City, Mo., and held that position until retirement in 1987. Cal is well known at UMR for his efforts with Missouri legislators on our behalf. In 1987 he was instrumental in the passage of the engineering equipment bill, sponsored by the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers. Since its passage, the bill has brought $11,500,000 to the University of Missouri System (UMR $7,622,000) for engineering equipment replacement.
Cal has been extremely active in the MSM/UMR Alumni Association and is currently a vice president. He is also chair of the government relations committee, which includes responsibility for the public resource ambassadors, numbering approximately 180 with the recent addition of in-state members of the Academy of Mechanical Engineers. The PRA group actively supports fun-ding for UMC and UMR operations and UMR facility additions and renovations. He received the MSM/UMR Alumni Service Award in 1987, the UM System Presidential Citation in 1996, and the UMR Chancellor's Medal in 1998.
