Prior to retirement, Bart led the Manufacturing Technology team at Boeing Research & Technology, a virtual team with sites in St. Louis, Southern California, Seattle, and Philadelphia. Manufacturing Technology is focused on acquiring, developing and implementing advanced materials and processes that enable innovative structural concepts to improve the affordability and performance of Boeing products. To enhance his team's funding for such efforts, Bart also led the pursuit of numerous government R&D contracts. In addition, he is led the globalization of Boeing's R&D efforts in the area of materials and processes, with collaboration efforts to gain access to world-class technology underway in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Italy, India, South Africa, the Netherlands, UAE, and China. As you can see, Bart is a frequent flyer!
One government program Bart helped Missouri S&T win is the Center for Aerospace Manufacturing Technology (CAMT) in Missouri S&T’s MAE department. This U.S. Air Forcefunded effort provided Missouri S&T over $18 million in U.S. government funding. Boeing, through Bart's efforts, provided required cost match funds for this joint effort. He served on the CAMT Executive Steering Committee overseeing the Center's technical efforts. CAMT is now an Academia/Industry/Government consortium at MS&T. Bart also served on the boards of several major Air Force and Navy technical centers. Bart continues to serve as Boeing's representative and the chairman of the University of Sheffield's Advanced Manufacturing Research Center (AMRC) in the UK. He also does consulting work for Boeing, working with colleges to improve Boeing's recruiting efforts.
