Bob retired at the beginning of 2000 after 45 years with Havens Steel, a Kansas City based global steel construction firm. From 2000 to 2003, he served as a management consultant and as the non-executive chairman of the board of Havens. He is a past chairman and past board member of the board of directors of the American Institute of Steel Construction and a past director and past president of the Central Fabricators Association, both headquartered in Chicago, IL.
